Platía Faneroménis

The Faneroménis square is to replace the Eleftherías square located in the centre of the city and mark the most important part of the city. The square’s name was taken from the nearby church which architecture is the mixture fo three different styles – Latin, Neoclassical and Byzantine. The church was built at the end of the Ottoman reign and is the burial place for the bishops killed during the Turkish invasion. Tourists may be interested in the Araplar Cmii mosque situated next to the Ikostiogdhóďs Oktovríou square. The building which nowadays serves as a Muslim temple, was constructed during the reing of Lusignans and is an example of the majestic Gothic-Byzantine style. Unfortunetelly it is not accessible for the tourists.
