Museum of Ethnography
In the immediate vicinity of the walls and Kyrenia Gate there is a Museum of Ethnography organised in the building of the monastery. The monastery was used by the Dervish Church of the Mevleviya fraternity, recognised as illegal and dissolved in 1954. The building, known as Tekke, was constructed in the XVIIth century and the Museum of Ethnography is worth visiting, among others, because of the charm of its building. Except for the rich collection of exhibits which origin in many cases is strange, the Museum may be attractive for the tourists because of the interiors left by the Dervish. Among many different souvenirs sold in the Museum, one of the most interesting may be the postcards presenting Dervish people during their rituals. The exhibition offers also the tombs of the monastery superiors. The Museum is open for the visitiors every day till 5 p.m. with the break between 1 and 2 p.m.
